Shielding Specs

The toroid shield (JT) consists of two parts, one in the bore of the toroid vacuum vessel, the other incorporated into the cold mass structure (JTV). The shielding in the toroid bore is of copper casting alloy, which has a 10% shorter interaction length than iron. It is in the form of individual annular rings. these are covered in an polyethylene cladding. Gaps and cracks are kept to a minimum to reduce leakage.
